What is your fee?
We charge a global fee for our midwifery care package for pregnancy, birth, and postpartum costs. We encourage families to choose an amount that works for them on a sliding scale of $5,500-$7,500. For clients who desire all in-home appointments, the package is $7,800. There is a required initial deposit of $600 at the onset of care, with the remaining balance due by 36 weeks of pregnancy. Payments can be made via cash, check, debit card, credit card, or HSA card. Please reach out to inquire about alternative payment plans, additional discounts, and/or to barter/trade for services.
You will be responsible for purchasing a birth kit as well as some additional supplies to have ready for the birth. We provide a complimentary birthing tub for you to use during labor, but you will need to acquire a lead-free hose, a tub liner, and a fishnet. In total, these supplies typically cost between $60 and $150, depending on your unique preferences.
Ultrasounds and lab work are billed directly to your insurance.
Do you take insurance?
We work with an insurance biller who will run a verification of benefits to help determine what your specific policy will cover. Because we charge a global fee, your claims are submitted once your baby is born. We collect payment for care upfront, and your insurance will provide you with a reimbursement after your claims have been processed.
Where will my prenatal and postpartum visits take place?
We currently see families in our office located in West St. Paul, MN, or Eden Prairie, MN. We provide a minimum of one in-home prenatal visit to all families in our care around 36 weeks of pregnancy. After your baby arrives, we return to your home for in-home postpartum visits between 24-48 hours, 3-5 days, 2-3 weeks, and then your final visit takes place in the office at 6 weeks postpartum. Additional visits will be provided as needed within the first 6 weeks. We are happy to offer all in-home prenatal and postpartum care on a case-by-case basis. For those desiring this option, we require a package fee of $7,800.
Is Homebirth Messy?
Birth can be a messy process. That said, families order a customized birth kit during pregnancy that contains supplies to help protect your environment. Before we leave, we clean up any mess that occurs with the birth. By the time we are done cleaning up, you would never know a birth occurred in your space.
Is Homebirth Safe?
There are many bodies of research that indicate that homebirth, with a skilled provider, is as safe as a hospital setting for low-risk individuals. Emergency complications occur very rarely, and many complications can be managed safely at home. Your midwife is trained to identify deviations from normal and to respond efficiently and effectively to optimize safety for you and your baby. Every birth is attended by two midwives, and sometimes three! Our team is trained in adult CPR and advanced neonatal resuscitation measures. While we each possess a deep trust in physiologic birth, we have learned that there are times when intervention can not only be life-saving, but can ultimately preserve the goal of remaining at home. Here is a detailed list of the tools we bring to births.
Who can be present at my birth?
For some, birth is a family affair, while others may prefer a smaller circle of people in their birthing space. We welcome you to create the environment that is best for you as you welcome a new soul into your family. Your midwives are happy to talk through the logistics with you throughout pregnancy to ensure your birth team will seamlessly support your birth plans.
What happens if I need to be in a hospital?
There are instances that could arise in pregnancy, labor, birth, or the postpartum time in which remaining in our care would not be considered safe. There are many wonderful hospital-based providers whom we can consult with and transfer care to should that become indicated. In the event of a hospital transfer after 36 weeks or in labor, we will join you at the hospital and remain with you up until your baby is born. Once you are settled back at home, we can resume our postpartum care schedule as originally planned.
What are the benefits of a 3-midwife team vs. a solo midwife?
One of the greatest benefits our clients appreciate is the high likelihood of knowing both midwives who will attend their birth. This continuity of care brings deep comfort. Throughout your prenatal visits, you'll build a relationship with each midwife—and we’ll get to know you, too. By the time you meet your baby, you can trust that your midwives understand your wishes, values, and dreams, and will carry them with care as we support you and your family.
When can I start care with Solstice?
Starting care early allows our clients to get the most out of their global fee by maximizing the time and support they receive throughout their pregnancy. Early engagement helps our midwife team build meaningful relationships with you from the beginning, allowing us to deeply understand your preferences and curate your personalized experience. This early connection means that when it's time to give birth, the team knows how best to support you and your family—like being hosted by someone who truly knows you. Additionally, beginning care in the first trimester allows for more time to invest in your health. Unlike the brief 15-minute early pregnancy OB appointments common elsewhere, Solstice offers 60–90 minute visits that allow for in-depth discussions, early treatment of symptoms like morning sickness, and tailored recommendations using tools like defensive eating and homeopathy. So, TLDR: the sooner the better!
